美國手機上網和熱點分享方案 US cell phone data and hotspot plan

分享最近幾個月尋找手機上網和 Hotspot 的方案。主要不是找吃到飽 unlimited call/text/data plan。我的目的是當作家裡 ipad or laptop 緊急時 data backup line，最近 Comcast cable 品質堪慮，常常無預警整個區域斷網，連附近 xfinitywifi 也無法用。

需求大概是

1. low monthly payment and no contract
2. lower rate per GB
3. hotspot
4. rollover data
5. signal coverage

以上大概又是照重要順序從上到下排列。因為是 backup 方案，所以不想每個月又多花錢什麼 $10 or $15 以上才幾 GB data，而 unlimited 大概都是 $30 以上，因為是 backup 所以不需要 unlimited，當然不要綁約，隨時想換更便宜或是取消. 第二是每 GB 要便宜，有些方案 monthly plan 便宜，但是 top-up 500MB 1GB 要個 $5 or $10。再來可以當 hotspot 這就沒話說，因為要 backup line 然後可以分享給使用。rollover data 也是另一個重點，畢竟花錢買了 data 不想要 7 or 30 days 沒用完就被 reset。signal coverage 是當然訊號跟頻寬不要太差，主要是 backup 也就不期望太快。

已有一條 freedompop free plan，每個月 free data 200MB 又加上 $3.99 rollover。但其實 rollover 慢慢的累積到將近 1GB 一下子需要時又快用完了。如果直接再 top-up 1GB 其實不便宜，他不能直接買個幾 GB 的 data 比較便宜，算是要等用量用超過，他們直接從 auto-pay 扣款後 top-up，所以不太能控制 GB per dollar。

一開始找的是 xfinity mobile，但 3GB 要 $15 monthly，他用 Verizon 網路其實是不錯。後來看有沒有專門做 data roaming plan 的，像是 180 days or 365 days or annual plan 買個 10 or 20GB 等等因為不想 monthly 幾十元這樣付用不完的 data。但其實整個方案算下來還是蠻貴的，且我也不是真的要 international roaming，所以附加價值用不到。一樣 data 用不完不能 rollover，且要 recharge 整個 annul plan 的錢.

後來找到 US Mobile，他的方案可以最低 data 每個月 50MB，費用大概就是最低$1.5 +$2.98 fee/tax。然後自己買的 data 可以一直 rollover。以 6GB 來說 $20 可以用很久其實蠻划算的。call/text 那些都不需要用。換算下來 2GB/$10 就是1GB=$5, 6GB/$20 是 1GB=$3.33。不常用或用不完又可以 rollover。

主要 plan 50MB monthly $4.48 (fee 這些是 federal or state 要收每個 number 必要的維護費用 + tax)。一年下來約 $54 元，加上額外 data 費用估計自己 6GB 當 backup 可以用個半年或以上。所以大概就是 $74 (6GB) 到 $94 (12GB) 一年。

有人會想差不了太多，那直接買 $10 monthly 1GB 不也才 $120 一年差不多還有 12GB totally。問題在於如果當 backup line 某個月突然需要用超過 1GB，那多買 500MB or 1GB 花的費用又不能 rollover 只有 30 days。

另外 US Mobile 會送來兩個 SIM starter kit，因為他使用兩家 mobile network: T-mobile and Verizon。他們稱為 Super LTE (Verizon) or GSM-LTE (T-mobile)。所以看你手機支援哪一家，或是 coverage 哪個好，其實一開始開通時選擇就很方便。

另外他有支援 international roaming e-SIM。自己有台灣的 mobile number 加上累積的 data plan 其實就用不太到，且 5GB 要 $20。但因為有 US mobile 帳號，要是去其他國家玩，直接可以開一張 e-SIM 在我的主要美國手機 (需要支援 e-SIM) 加上 international roaming data plan，那麼我原機就可以直接帶出國使用，不用把這張 US mobile 的 SIM 改放到主要用途手機。

US Mobile 網站或客服說不支援 Hot-spot 像是 MIFI，且輸入 IMEI 不能通過認證。這時候可以找一隻支援 Verizon 網路的手機，輸入後給他驗證開通，然後把 SIM 卡再放入 hot-spot device。記得你的 Hot-spot device 要 unlocked 且支援該系統網路。
